The MacArthur 5-Star Polished Bent Corn Cob Pipe from Missouri Meerschaum is a more finished appearance version of the 5-Star Natural. Consequently, it is not historically accurate (but we like it anyway!).

Its shortened tobacco chamber and extended shank offer an easy smoke, and the bowl extension makes for a great grip! Perfect for armchairs and leisurely afternoons.

It comes non-filtered with a bent black bit only.

Due to the nature of the corn cobs themselves, you may notice some chipping on the top edge of your pipe. This is perfectly normal and won’t in any way affect the way your pipe smokes. The chips only add to the charm and character of your corn cob pipe. Enjoy!

    Translation:
I now own a large number of MM pipes. I’m really excited about most of them, but a few sometimes have mistakes that cause problems. So here too.
I am very impressed by the feel and the smoking experience. Unfortunately, the pipe stem is obviously drilled in the factory from both sides for the smoke channel. In my copy, the two holes run almost parallel and only slightly overlap at one point. So there is no through hole for the smoke channel. As a result, you can smoke, but the smoke channel cannot be cleaned with a pipe cleaner because the pipe cleaner can only be pushed in halfway through the hole and then sticks.
I fixed this by removing the spar and drilling through it again. The exit control should work better at this point.
But as I said, actually a great pipe.

    Mac Arthur 5 star polished

Just smoking it for the first time, with a large mug of coffee. It holds a lot of tobacco, smoking pretty easily, I like the large size it’s definitely not a clencher. Smoke is cooler with the longer shank. it is pretty solid I think it will last a long time. It’s damn cool looking as well. Vincent

    A Lovely Well Built Handfull

This just came in. I had ordered the “natural” version before, but find this to be much more comfortable to hold in the hand. As large as the bowl is, it will be a challenge to finish a fully packed bowl. A suggestion for a third version of this lovely pipe: add the dark stain to the outside of the bowl!

Really a Fun Cob to Smoke

It is a ridiculously large pipe. I guess it is somewhat of a novelty in that it is not practical to carry everywhere, but it smokes well. The bowl is very deep but not as deep as you would think given the overall size. Also, I think the cob is thicker where the smoking chamber is so it stays cool when you are holding it (even if it didn’t there is a lot of real estate to find a cool spot). The shank is long so the smoke is also like smoking clouds and not hot. Even though the shank is really long, you can still use a standard sized pipe cleaner so it is easy to maintain. Another thing that is different about this pipe as it relates to smoking your first half of a dozen bowls is that you get less of the burning wood taste when you are charring the insert like you sometimes get at first with other cobs. I think the long shank helps soften the blow. I wouldn’t have this as my only cob, but I would not want a cob collection without one. I prefer cobs to other pipes personally so I am really liking this pipe. I think I have about 6 eastons, 10 or so various legends, a general, shire cobbitt (I use that bit on legends a lot), CG, diplomat, and little devil acorn. Best pipes are CG, Diplomat, Shire Cobbitt, Little Devil, and this pipe. Also another tip with this pipe is to dump the ash while you smoke before you tamp it and it will stay lit with just a charring light if you pack it reasonably (not super tight).
