Eugene Falco
Eugene Falco is a multi-faceted creator with a distinctive approach to the world of pipes, art, and podcasting. As the mind behind the UNCANNY?! line (often abbreviated as U?!), Falco’s work merges dark, whimsical aesthetics with traditional pipe-making, creating pieces that are both visually captivating and uniquely functional. His creative output spans beyond pipes, including his tobacco tin art and his role as co-host of the Greywoodie Show alongside Nathan Davis of Kaywoodie. In addition, he helps organize the Capitaland Pipe Show, further embedding himself in the pipe community.
Falco’s background in art and marketing, particularly in tourism as the arts director for “The Cave” in upstate New York, laid the foundation for his diverse artistic endeavors, including a newfound fascination with pipes sparked by his friendship with Davis. Falco’s journey into pipe making began when he was introduced to the craft by Davis, who was transitioning into the pipe industry. Initially captivated by the eccentricity of pipes, Falco soon became engrossed in the creative aspects of pipe making, particularly experimenting with materials and finishes. His style is characterized by a balance of traditional forms and his own quirky twist—often through bold, colorful stems and unconventional rustication techniques.
One standout feature of his work is the Seawitch finish, a highly detailed and textured rustication inspired by the look of weathered, nautical surfaces. This creative freedom, paired with his DIY approach to stem making and finishing, gives UNCANNY?! pipes a unique edge. Far from traditional, Falco’s pipes reflecthis broad artistic background, with each piece carrying a sense of individuality, marked by innovative materials and finishes that showcase his distinctive take on pipe-making.
