Diplomat Corn Cob Pipe
- Product Review (submitted on October 9, 2015):
- Before I received one of these pipes I thought that it was just a Country Gentleman without a dark finish. This is not the case. The pipe is lighter and a little smaller overall. I got a gift set with both the Apple and the 5th Avenue. The bent Apple gives you a solid 30-minute smoke and the 5th Avenue can go for almost 45 minutes if packed correctly. The shank and the bowl walls are not as think as the Country Gentleman, but that only makes it easier to smoke and clinch. Although many say that these pipes do not need a break-in period, I think that a 3 bowl gradual fill helps the performance in the long run. That is to say, fill the bowl 1/3 full, 2/3 full, and then 3/3 full for the first 3 smokes. During the first couple of smokes I do get a taste of wood at the end of the smoke, but that goes away after the carbon has been distributed in the break-in period. After that you have a great pipe that you do not have to worry about. You can simply smoke; and that is the purpose of all this in the first place!
